ABOUT SARAH SHOTTS · DURANGO, CO

I got into this because
I was good at it and

cared about it.

And after all this time, that’s still the whole reason.

Social media used to feel simple. Now it’s one of those “small things” that somehow eats half your day and still leaves you wondering if it was worth it.

That’s where I come in.

I started managing social media more than six years ago, and I haven’t really looked back. I’ve worked with dispensaries, estheticians, outdoor outfitters, restaurants, financial institutions, real estate companies, nonprofits, and a whole mix of businesses with almost nothing in common except this: they needed someone who could understand their brand quickly, figure out what actually made sense for them, and turn that into content people would care about.

Before launching SAM, Socially Awkward Marketing, I served as Director of Social Media at Marketing Concepts Squared for 5 years. I learned what works when you're time-strapped and the expectations are high. I also learned the difference between what clients say they need and what they actually need. Those are often very different things, and knowing which is which saves a lot of time, money, and frustration.

In January 2025, I left to start SAM on my own terms. Smaller roster, real relationships, fewer clients, and more attention to each one. The kind of work I actually wanted to be doing.

I care about the details, from the way a caption sounds to the way a post feels when it shows up in someone else’s feed. I believe strategy and visuals go hand in hand and that your brand deserves both.

I think social media can be a powerful tool when people actually understand how to use it. Time and time again, I see a lot of frustration because nobody has helped you understand what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, or what actually matters

Working with me is collaborative, but it is not a total handoff where you disappear and hope for the best. I bring the strategy, structure, and creative direction. You bring the expertise, goals, and actual heartbeat of the business. Together, we build something that feels like you and works for the life of your business, not just your feed.

A brief list of things I mean deeply.

COMMUNITY OVER COMPETITION

There are a lot of incredible people doing this work. I'd rather refer you to someone who's a better fit than pretend I'm the only option. The industry gets better when we're honest about that.

REAL RESULTS, HONEST EXPECTATIONS

Social media isn't magic. I'm not going to tell you it is. It takes time, consistency, and a clear message. I'll tell you what's working, what isn't, and why.

CLARITY BEATS VOLUME

Chances are, I probably am not going to tell you that you have to post more. More is rarely the answer. Getting clear on what you're saying and who you're saying it to is almost always the answer.

VALUES-DRIVEN BUSINESSES ONLY

Not because it sounds good in a bio. Because they're more interesting to work with and their audiences are genuinely more loyal. If you care about how you do business, we'll probably get along fine.

SOME OF THE BRANDS I’VE WORKED WITH

A little bit of everything really.

Sound like someone you’d want to work with?
